AMERICAN
RED CROSS
NEEDS DISASTER RESPONSE VOLUNTEERS
The Shenandoah County Chapter of the American Red Cross is recruiting Disaster Response Team members for Shenandoah and Page counties. Join the American Red Cross in providing critical relief services when disaster strikes right here in your community or around the nation. The Red Cross provides on-scene essential aid and comfort to victims of residential fires and responds to local and national disasters. Team members sign up and train for any of several responsibilities: sheltering, feeding, supply distribution, client casework and other vital tasks. We will teach you the important skills necessary to get your family prepared for disaster and for you to respond to small and large disaster events.
“It is essential that citizens and organizations in Shenandoah and Page Counties be prepared and trained to respond to any disaster situation, whenever or wherever it occurs in the community. Being a volunteer with the American Red Cross and its disaster response team will “make your day” when your efforts personally help an individual or family recover from a residential/apartment fire, flood, or other type of disaster. T heir appreciation will touch your heart,” states Frank Wise, Shenandoah County American Red Cross Chapter’s Disaster Chairman and member of the Board of Directors.
The Disaster Training class for Shenandoah County will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 th , from 9am-5pm , at the Winchester Red Cross office . Topics covered during the class include:
Call the Chapter office for more information and to register for Disaster Training at (540) 459-2913 . There is no cost involved for Disaster Training, but you must register for the training and complete a volunteer application to get started.

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, , hundreds of volunteers helped 14 families displaced by 10 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to almost 1,230 persons; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people (2,400 in Shenandoah County) gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on local donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
